All this talk of swine flu is detracting attention from this week's real chauvinistic pigs. Typical, wasn’t it? The minute someone suggests that maybe women should have a level playing field in the job stakes (Harriet Harman and the Equality Bill), the boss class (male) start jumping up and down and squealing “unfair”.
Look boys, just get over it. For the past millennium, men have had jobs, power and influence on account of their different physiognomy – and that is not a posh word for brains. And, let’s be honest, some of you have been great, but lots of you have made a pig’s ear of it. We’ve had wars, pestilence, poverty and now the banking apocalypse.
So if a woman on paper can do a job as well as a man, why not let her? You might find that she does it better. Or is that what the boys are really scared of?
